Because of the war and the isolation of Germany and Austria, on the one hand, and the suppression of my music on the other hand, most of my works are not available in this country. I am afraid it might take quite a number of years before this shortcoming is repaired.

Therefore I have developed a plan which was suggested to me by procedures usual at present in public libraries. They photograph on microfilm all works of literature, art and music which they cannot possess in original or in copies. With the help of a number of devices visitors to the libraries can now study the material otherwise unavailable to them.

My plan is to photograph on microfilm all my works and provide a limited number of representative libraries with copies of these films.

Competent people assure me that this will rather stimulate sales of my works when they are available. But in no case is there a danger to the rights of the publisher. Of course these microfilms will never leave the rooms of the library and can only be read there.

Will you please write me a letter stating that you have no objection against this plan.
